Louis-Jobin outdoor program

A study program with an outdoor focus

Saint-Raymond's Louis-Jobin high school has developed a program of study with an outdoor focus that takes advantage of the richness of the region.

It was built in collaboration with Coopérative Vallée Bras-du-Nord, whose proven expertise in education through adventure and nature has been put to good use. The school offers this program to students in Secondary 4 and 5.

Environment and
eco-citizenship

Since 2015, in collaboration with the ALCOA Foundation, the program has undergone a facelift, incorporating an important component concerning environmental education and eco-citizenship.

This component takes many forms, and is present throughout the program and field trips. The partnership with the ALCOA Foundation provides for the training of several leaders and ambassadors to promote the environment and, more broadly, sustainable development.

Vallée Bras-du-Nord is very proud of this partnership and intends to spread the benefits and positive spin-offs of this wonderful project.

The project

Team members from the school and the cooperative provide training and technical workshops, according to their areas of expertise. They also guide field trips and expeditions, encouraging students to develop their team spirit, leadership and social skills.

This unique program generates significant spin-offs, both for the young people themselves and for the community at large. It has enabled them to discover the varied riches of the Raymondois and Portneuvois regions, and encouraged them to reappropriate these areas. The young people have changed their outlook on their own part of the country, and are now familiar with a number of new activities they can enjoy there. With the acquisition of technical skills and a greater awareness of their environment, these young people are now true ambassadors for their region, the outdoors and sustainable development.

Baggage that will stay with young people for life

The young people come away with a wealth of knowledge that will stay with them for the rest of their lives: a better understanding of themselves and others, a spirit of resilience, courage, perseverance, greater self-confidence, the ability to overcome personal limitations, open-mindedness and awareness to maintain good health.

Finally, a number of young people mentioned that this rich experience had stimulated them enough to want to continue at school. Thanks to their experience, several of our students have gone on to work in the outdoors, notably with us at Vallée Bras-du-Nord.

Proud of this unique expertise, Vallée Bras-du-Nord is proud to be the outdoor cooperative with the largest number of outdoor graduates from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi.
